John McInerney [2006]   [ back ]
Mike: Hi John, let's go back a little bit in time. How did start your adventure with music? Do you have any musical education? How did you become a member of the group? John McInerney - click to zoomJohn: We started back in 1984, our producers Coconut Records, had the idea to form a boy group. Myself, Trevor and Andrew were all living in Cologne at the time. The first single was "L.O.V.E. In My Car". Apart from my singing ability I don't have any musical education. Mike: Where did the name Bad Boys Blue come from? John: In the beginning we all wore blue clothes on stage, that's why the "blue". Mike: Do you remember your first show? John: It was in a small town in South Germany called Schweinfurt or Deggendorf, I can't remember the name of the club though. Mike: Tell us the story about "Come Back And Stay". As all the BBB fans know it was a big hit, but also the very first song which you sang lead on. Who decided that your voice would be the best for this song? John: My producer Tony Hendrik liked the way I sang the vocals on "Come Back And Stay" and we released it as a single. Mike: How much time does it take you usually to track down vocals for a single track? John: To track the vocals for a song on average takes about 2 hours. Mike: Do you feel famous and what do you consider to be the greatest success of Bad Boys Blue? John: Famous! Maybe a little bit, actually I feel I am just a normal guy and I work in the music business. Greatest success I suppose is just knowing that people appreciate your music. John McInerney - click to zoomMike: I know that idea of making spanish version of “Save Your Love” called “Aguarda Tu Amor” came from Tony Hendrik. Was it successfull in Spain? John: We did it as a summer song for Spain. I know it was played on their radio stations. Mike: Have you ever heard "I'm Your Believer" performed by Silent Circle? John: Yes, "I'm Your Believer" is a Silent Circle song. I did a cover of it for a BBB album. Mike: How came idea of making some covers by Bad Boys Blue (“Under The Boardwalk”, “No Regrets”, “Love Really Hurts Without You”)? John: Tony, our producer made these covers for album tracks. Mike: Your first record company was Coconut Records, but why did you decide to leave it in 1994 and start working with Intercord? John: We changed because we felt we needed some new ideas and work with a different producer. Mike: This question is similar to the last one, but concerns Bros-Music, how did you start working with David Brandes and his crew? John: I know David a long time and I felt it would be good to record an album with him. Mike: Have you ever thought about solo career? If you had an opportunity to make a solo album, what style of music would it be? John: Solo album, Mike - yeah! Why not? But I am also happy recording songs for BBB. John McInerney - click to zoomMike: Is there any unreleased stuff of Bad Boys Blue? John: Not that I know of, Mike. Mike: Where and when has taken place your concert for the biggest audience? John: Biggest concert was in Estonia, city of Tallin back in 1991/1992, open air festival, crowd was over 100.000. Mike: Do you remember some funny story, which happened during your tours? John: Oh yes, lots, but it would take too long to write them down. Mike: What impressions do you have after your last shows in Poland? John: I am very happy with the shows in Poland. A very good response from the crowd and I'm looking forward to the next dates coming up. Mike: Have you ever been recognized in Poland? John: Yes and they say "oh John, we like your music" and I say "thank you, don't worry about it and don't forget to buy the next album". Mike: Have you ever overslept/got too late to an important interview/show? John: Sometimes we are late to show, but it doesn't depend on us. Usually it is caused by a traffic jam, flight's delay, etc... Mike: Are you in touch with ex-members of Bad Boys Blue nowadays? What would you say if some of them would like to join the BBB again? John: Yes, I am in touch with Trevor Bannister. Mike: What do you think about the Internet? John: I think the Internet is really useful nowadays, it's a great source of information and also very important element of artists' promotion. John & Sylvia - click to zoomMike: Would you like to tell a little bit about your personal life? John: That's a big question, Mike. But let's just say Sylvia and myself are very happy together and of course we look positively to the future. Mike: Do your sons, Ryan and Waynne, like your music? John: Yes, they like some of my tracks. Mike: What is your favourite football team? John: FC Liverpool. Mike: What makes you happiest? John: Normal everyday things make me happy and also having a positive attitude in whatever you're doing. Mike: How do you take out the stress of your work or if you've just had a bad day? John: Take a deep breath and carry on! Mike: What do you plan to do with your lives after your singing career is over? John: Mike, there's always something to do! Maybe I buy a boat and sail around the world, that sounds like a good idea. Mike: Now is the time for a question which all your fans are waiting for - when a new single/abum of BBB is gonna be released? John: Hopefully it's gonna be released this winter. Mike: What would you like to say to your fans? John: I can only say to all the fans out there who support BBB - thank you all! I am very happy you enjoy the music and of course let's hope we see each other at the next concert. Mike: Thank you for giving this interview! John: BBB forever!
